var intro = "
Jan’s Pilates?
\

I know Pilates might sound a bit overwhelming but I’ve trained hundreds of people of all levels of abilities. I make it fun and simple. I make it easy to learn and something to which you’ll look forward to coming back to week after week. If you have had a bad experience with Pilates we’ll fix that.
\

Anybody can do Pilates - even if you have not exercised in years and/or you are overweight.
\

I offer highly individualized one-on-one instruction of a complimentary combination of Pilates and Personal Training. Of course, if you want to practice only Pilates that’s just fine. I am the owner and trainer and I’m certified in both areas. As a mature professional I have been teaching Pilates for over sixteen years.
\

A dedicated student who comes twice a week can see and feel results in a few weeks. So pick up your phone and call me now at (650) 364-5737.
"

var studio = "
The studio and equipment are exceptional. I have almost every piece of the best Pilates equipment you can buy (save for some very small, rarely used accessories). In addition, I use stability balls, medicine balls, foam rollers, leg weights, small balls, etc. I also have personal training equipment. Everything is well maintained. Each piece of equipment is sterilized prior to the next client.
\

The studio is set next to a zen garden where hummingbirds visit a fountain and the bamboo casts shadows.
It has great Feng Shui.

"

var bio = "
About Us

Jan Cadlini is certified in both Pilates and Personal Training. She has been training in her studio for over 16 years.
\

She is a graduate of Stanford University with an emphasis in exercise physiology in the Human Biology Department. She started teaching “Conditioning” to her fellow classmates as a sophomore! Upon graduating she became one of the first ten Fitness Directors in Business and Industry in the U.S. at Xerox. She then went on to become the Athletic Director of the Seattle Athletic Club.
\

Many years later she discovered Pilates before it was popular. She practiced it with several master trainers before being trained to teach Pilates with Rael Isakowitz, a prominent leader in the field. Being an advanced student with all the experience of learning the entire body of work is rare. Most instructors don’t have that depth of training.
\

During her life she has been competent in 26 sports, many of which influence her teaching and understanding of client’s needs.
\

By incorporating her knowledge of gross anatomy, exercise physiology and kinesiology with traditional and new concepts of Pilates, Jan customizes a program to the needs and desires of each individual.\

var pilates = "
What is Pilates?
\

Pilates is named after Joseph Pilates, a German, who during WWI began creating very special exercises for the rehabilitation of soldiers in England. After the war he moved to New York where he began to refine his training with ballet dancers. As time went on he began working with the general public. He passed away in 1964.
\

He originated “mat” exercises done on the floor and other exercises performed on machines he himself created. I will discuss his philosophy elsewhere. He had a few students who continued his work, largely maintaining his methods. As time went on however, their students and then their students began deviating from his method and put their own stamp on the “work” and the equipment.
\

This is good because Pilates had some pretty risky moves for the average person. One good example is “The Hundred” which is the first exercise in a mat class according to Pilates. However, there are master trainers today who have taken a much more Western sports medicine approach. I have studied their methods and purchased their equipment. I think my effort at Pilates is safe, efficient and effective.
\

Pilates is a lot like yoga except you are constantly moving and working on isolated muscle groups. The exercises are impossible to explain, you have to see and do them.
\

Here are the concepts:
\

\

Muscular control
\

Concentration of movement
\

Conciseness of movement
\

Flow of movement
\

Breathing
\

The mind-body connection
\

"

“After one year of training I can fit into strapless gowns and I can even wear shorts! Up until now I’ve had to wear warm up pants for tennis even in the summer.” Sue D., Atherton
\

“When I was 32 I ruptured my L5 disk. Luckily I didn’t need surgery. For four years I did basic physical therapy exercises and walked a great deal. But I still suffered from overall weakness, inflexibility and pain. At 36 I started Pilates and have been doing it for three years. I have never felt stronger and my posture has improved a lot. The pain in my back flares up much less than it use to.” Alan R., Redwood City<\p>\

“I used to be a ballerina. Now at 50 my body seems like it has a mind of it’s own. I was beginning to really lose the tone I always had. After a few months of training with Jan, I look more like myself and I feel great.” Julie, Menlo Park<\p>"

var age = "
Pilates and Ageing
\

Pilates is perhaps the best training for seniors. Maintaining your strength as you age will more likely keep you living more fully and independently than any other fitness paradigm. It’s weight bearing although easy on your joints. It’s the best way to prevent osteoporosis! Sure walking is great for that, too. But Pilates works the entire body in a safe and predictable way (with the right instructor!).
\

Here are the benefits for seniors:
\

\

Stay strong and independent
\

Prevent osteoporosis
\

Fitness increases your mental functioning
\

Improves core and shoulder strength - fall saftey
\

Enhances balance and coordination - fall saftey
\

No stress on joints
\

Better posture
\

Increases flexibility
\

Look, feel and function better
\

\

Anybody can learn to do it, whether you haven’t exercised in years or you are overweight
"
